An error message "The unique field already contains duplicated values" appears. How do I check which records contain duplicate values?

When updating the App Settings, you may receive an error message "Failed to complete the process. The unique field already contains duplicated values. Please remove them and try again." In such a case, you can check which records contain duplicate values by performing data aggregation using the Chart feature.

On the "App Settings" screen, click Discard Changes and click OK to abort the app setting update, and then check the records with duplicate values in the following ways.

How to check which records contain duplicate values

To check which records contain duplicate values, perform the following steps.

  1. Click the App Settings icon (the gear-shaped icon at the upper right of the relevant app's "View" screen).

  2. Click the Graphs tab.

  3. Click the Create Graph icon (the plus sign-shaped icon at the right of the screen).

  4. Configure the graph as shown below.

    • Name: Optional (Example: Duplication Check)
    • Chart Type: Table
    • Group by (Level 1): Select a field to prohibit duplicate records
    • Function: Count (Number of Records)
    • Filter: All records
    • Sort by: Total, Descending
  5. Click Save on the upper left side of the screen.

  6. Click Update App at the upper right of the screen.

  7. On the confirmation dialog, click Update App.

Now, display the graph you created.
If '2' or a larger value is displayed as the number of records for a field value, it means there are multiple records that contain that field value. Click Show Records and modify the field value, or consider deleting records in such a way that there is only one record with that field value. If the error is not solved

If the error persists even though the number of records for all the field values is '1', the possible causes are as follows:

  • Due to the Permissions for Records setting, you cannot view records that contain duplicate values
    Check the setting and make sure that you have permission to view all records, and try the steps described in How to check which records contain duplicate values.

  • There are records with duplicate values on the "Preview" screen
    Open the "Preview" screen and try the steps described in How to check which records contain duplicate values.
    To open the "Preview" screen, click the App Settings icon (the gear-shaped icon at the upper right of the "View" screen), open the App Settings tab, and click Preview.
